GLUTEN-FREE. NUT-FREE. SOY-FREE. DAIRY-FREE. VEGAN. DELICIOUS.

Each week, we share together in Holy Communion. As we share in the bread and cup, we receive God’s grace in a tangible way, find sustenance for the journey, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be Jesus’ hands and feet in the world.

To be as inclusive as we can, at The Local Church, we offer Communion bread that is gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free, soy-free, vegan… and delicious. You could call it a miracle. We just call it homemade, fresh, and craving-worthy.

Ingredients

3 cups gluten-free flour mix
2 tsp xanthan gum
1/2 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar
1 tsp dry yeast
2 tsp olive oil (+ a little extra)
1.5 cups + 2 tbsp warm water

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 200ºF. Grease an 8x4 loaf pan or 8-inch iron skillet with olive oil.

  2. Combine dry ingredients (GF flour, xantham gum, salt, sugar, dry yeast).

  3. Combine warm water and olive oil.

  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry, mixing on high for two minutes to activate the yeast. (It should resemble a thick cake batter.)

  5. Pour batter into a greased pan, and cover the pan with a tea towel. Turn the oven OFF and leave bread in the oven for thirty minutes to rise.

  6. Take bread out of the oven and preheat the oven to 400ºF. (Optional: Drizzle a little olive oil on top for extra flavor.)

  7. Bake bread uncovered for 45–55 minutes.

  8. Remove from the oven and drizzle more olive oil on top of the bread.

  9. Let the bread cool completely.
