ICYMI: Glitch 1 // Greed & Gluttony

If you missed Sunday's service or could use a refresher, here's a quick recap featuring sharables and takeaways from our gathering. Scroll to the bottom for the full sermon recording.

📖 Focal Scripture

Mark 10:17–22

🎯 Reflection

There's a thin line between "wow" and "mine"—between seeing beauty as something to behold and something to possess. Our liberation lies not in securing more but in surrendering to the wonder of what already is, letting love remake our relationship to everything we thought we needed. What if Jesus is inviting us not to a better version of our striving, but to an entirely different way of being—one where we leave space on our plates for the ants, where even our leftovers become someone else's feast?

🗣️ Key Quotation

I am so tired of waiting.
Aren’t you,
for the world to become good
and beautiful and kind?
Let us take a knife
and cut the world in two—
and see what worms are eating
at the rind.

— Langston Hughes

🙏 Prayer

Generous God, who looks upon us with love even in our moments of grasping, help us to unclench our hands, to live from wonder instead of possession, and to embrace our glitches with honesty and tenderness; so that we might discover the freedom that comes from communion rather than control. May we receive your grace not as something to inherit but as the gift that reconnects us to you, to each other, and to our truest selves, through Christ who showed us the way from "mine" to "wow." Amen.

💡 Journaling Prompts

  • When did I last turn a "wow" moment into a "mine" moment? What was I afraid of losing?

  • Where have I experienced disconnection in my life recently?

  • What do I think about when I think about sin?

➡️ Next Step

Cole Arthur Riley writes, "If you want to know if you've forgotten how to marvel, try staring at something beautiful for five minutes and see where your mind goes." This week, set aside five minutes to practice wonder. Choose something you find beautiful, and observe it without capturing, analyzing, or possessing. If your mind wanders toward "What can I get from this?" or "How can I use this?" gently return to presence.
