TLCxYTH October Update

Each month, Rajeev sends an update to youth families with news, updates, and recaps. Here’s his update for October.

One of my favorite hymns is "Holy, Holy, Holy" and there is this line in it that I always was intrigued by that spoke of Cherubim and Seraphim. What was a Cherubim? What is a Seraphim? Without going into too much detail, those are spiritual beings that are present throughout scripture. They guard, protect, announce, and exist as fantastic creatures who serve God and God’s will throughout history.

Its October and with this crisp entrance into the fall season comes Halloween. Cue the “ooooooos.” Halloween is a fun time where we get to dress up and eat all the butterfingers our stomachs can handle, but Halloween also brings images of demons and devils and evil things which seem far from Christianity. For the month of October, we wanted to teach students that when it comes to spiritual beings, there is nothing to fear. Our talks this month were rooted in this series by The Bible Project which teaches us about Spiritual Beings and what demons and other spooky things are. You can watch them by clicking the link below! The whole series is super cool and worth watching with your students!

Halloween is a good time to remember that the goodness of God overcomes the darkness of this world. That isn't the point of Halloween, but when we're surrounded by spooky things, why would you not remember that?! And while there are mentions of evil spirits in scripture and scary things that take over people, we know that God’s power and might is beyond measure and will always transcend those things! So, when we see these images during this season, we know that there is nothing to fear!

TLCxYTH is growing, and we’re loving it! We’re looking for more volunteers to help out with Sunday morning youth, so if you want to try your hand at working with teens and teaching them about Jesus, let me know! Helping with youth group is an opportunity to model faith in a cool way, and I really believe that when students see more engagement from adult leaders, they will be more inclined to come.

Next month, we’re going to be starting a series on anxiety and stress and worry and how our faith can still be strong in the midst of it all. The series is going to be called “It’s Just A LOT” because isn’t it just a lot? We hope to see more and more students there! Our next meetings will be on 11/5, 11/12, and 11/19!

Happy Fall!
