ICYMI: Luke 9 // Follow Me

If you missed Sunday's service or could use a refresher, here's a quick recap featuring sharables and takeaways from our gathering. Scroll to the bottom for the full sermon recording.

📖 Focal Scripture

Luke 9:18–27

🎯 Reflection

In his suffering, arrest, and state-sanctioned execution, Jesus demonstrates solidarity with the incarcerated. When he says, “Follow me,” it’s an invitation to see the face of Jesus in the incarcerated and a reminder that his Jubilee mission extends to all.

🗣️ Key Quotation

“‘Out of sight, out of mind,’ is what I previously thought about the incarcerated. No one I loved or knew was in prisons, so I thought it didn’t affect me. I was wrong… Jubilee breaks down this notion of ‘out of sight, out of mind.’ Jubilee sees everyone.” — Camber Herrig

🙏 Prayer

Holy One, remind me that in seeking justice for the oppressed, I follow in the footsteps of Jesus, who calls me to take up my cross and advocate for Jubilee for all, especially the ones overlooked or forgotten. May I be moved to action and see the opportunities you offer to embody healing in this world. Amen.

➡️ Next Step

This week's next step practice is to step into solidarity with the incarcerated. Find a book about mass incarceration, check out a podcast that features voices of the incarcerated, or get involved with an organization that writes letters to persons on death row. Dig in more here.
